Frequently Asked Questions for Student Research Workshop Papers

Q: Can I submit my non-archival accepted paper in other venues?

A: Yes, as long as the other venues follow a similar double-submission policy. We refer authors to the detailed requirements outlined in our Author Guidelines. For papers submitted to the EACL main conference, please note that according to the ACL policy, authors are not permitted to submit the same work to another archival venue (such as SRW) while the paper is under review, committed, or awaiting a decision.

Q: Can I commit my ARR submission to SRW if it is rejected from the EACL main conference?

A: Yes, you can commit your ARR submission to SRW if it is rejected from the EACL main conference, provided that it adheres to the SRW submission requirements. The deadline for committing ARR submissions to SRW is January 6, 2026.

Q: If accepted, can a paper be published in the proceedings, even if the student cannot take part at the workshop?

A: The EACL organizing team will attempt to provide travel grants to authors of all accepted papers. However, if things still don’t work out, we can discuss remote presentation options should your paper be accepted.

Q: Do all the authors have to be students?

A: Only the first author is required to be a student; other authors may or may not be students.

Q: What is the format for a thesis proposal?

A: Thesis proposals are to be submitted in the same ACL Overleaf Long Paper template. The maximum page limit for the proposal should be 8 pages (plus unlimited pages for references and appendices). Please refer to the following examples from past years - 1 and 2.

Q: If I submit to the mentorship program, do I also have to submit to the workshop separately?

Yes! Please make sure you submit your work again to the workshop in order to have it reviewed.

Q: Can a systematic literature survey conducted by a master’s student be submitted to the EACL Student Research Workshop (SRW)?

Yes, a systematic literature survey is suitable for submission to the EACL SRW, provided the master’s student is listed as the first author.

Q: Is a researcher eligible to submit their work to EACL SRW if they graduated before the submission date but conducted the research during their PhD and remain affiliated with their university?

No, first authors must be current students at the time of submission. The EACL SRW is intended exclusively for current students, so graduates are not eligible to submit even if the research was completed during their PhD studies.

Q: Can I submit a paper to the mentorship program while also concurrently submitting it to another workshop or conference (e.g., ARR)?

No, you cannot submit a paper to the mentorship program if it is currently under review or has been submitted to another venue (like a workshop, conference, or ARR). Submitting the same work simultaneously to multiple places duplicates the efforts of our volunteer reviewers and mentors, which wastes valuable community resources. Furthermore, the mentorship program is specifically designed to provide focused guidance and feedback before you submit your work for the formal SRW review process; it is intended as an improvement step, not a parallel review channel.

Q: Can high school students submit papers to EACL SRW?

Yes, high school students are eligible to submit papers to EACL SRW as long as they meet the other submission requirements outlined in our Call for Papers and Author Guidelines.

Q: Can I submit multiple papers to EACL SRW 2026 as the first author?

Yes, each first author is allowed to submit up to two (2) papers to EACL SRW 2026, provided that the submissions are of different types (i.e., one “Thesis Proposal” and one “Research Paper”). This policy is designed to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to present their work and receive feedback. If an author exceeds this limit (for example, by submitting two first-author research papers), all submissions from that author will be desk-rejected without review.
